THE DESIGNER

Born on 12 December 1992 — her great-grandmother's birthday too — Hermine Sacau took an interest in the family's precious jewellery from a very young age. Trying on, cleaning, tidying away: the jewellery box was full of treasures and quickly became a playground that foretold her future.

After training in digital, Hermine turned to gemmology and studied at the Institut National de Gemmologie in Paris, to learn everything about the gems that would make up her future creations.

Through her encounter with passionate workshops, Douze Paris was born on 30 June 2017. The designer creates soft, delicate jewellery in 18-carat recycled gold, reviving the circular, heirloom philosophy of jewellery.

At the heart of her inspirations are women and their movements, the possibility of living unhindered yet preciously, and the infinite play of colours the earth offers us.

PHILOSOPHY

A promise of femininity: « douze » rather than douce

Look closely and you'll notice nothing is in order, yet everything is in its place. The Douze woman loves beautiful things — the ones that are gentle and last through time. Jewellery worn against the skin, the kind you wear for yourself, an everyday adornment you almost stop noticing. Almost, we said. Because the Douze woman likes to be noticed up close. The desire sparked by the delicacy of a chain ring, the balance of stones, the discreet layering of earrings. Asymmetrical at times, the jewellery box tangled up more often than not — and all the better for it. Douze and douze: time is resolutely feminine. Noble, mischievous and stubborn. Douze and douze: we move forward, quietly and at all costs. The world has a thick skin; Douze women do too. We stand our ground.

What makes Douze different: it's all in the z
« Z in three strokes: uprightness, softness, madness. A joyful stubbornness in refusing the beaten path. The transformation of a revolt: against homogenisation, against standardisation. And sketching the possibility of a maison, with a small m, dedicated to women. Attention paid to each one: the power of softness. »

Everyday jewellery : at Douze, there is no logo, no distinctive commercial marker. At most, a certain recognisable movement. Simple, light, timeless creations, worn in each woman's own way.

Stones at the centre : this is Douze's strength. Innovating, creating from stones unearthed along the way, and offering customers one-of-a-kind pieces born of Hermine's latest finds.

Bespoke, made to measure : this is the heart of Douze. Attention to the person, to the request, a creative ethic: the fruit of an encounter. Inner life over status. Heart and body. »

« The power of softness » : If softness were a gesture, it would be a caress. At Douze, we love softness: an intimate showroom, by appointment, a dedicated customer service. Calm and attentiveness.

The value chain : a network of artisans and partners. Honesty and transparency about sourcing and manufacturing. No miracles promised, but a commitment at every moment.

Douze Paris's mission: taking the drama out of jewellery
To de-dramatise: to strip something of its dramatic character.

For Douze Paris, it means stepping out of the drama, out of the theatre. Making jewellery accessible, lifting fears. The fear of walking into a jewellery boutique, the fear of treating yourself to a precious object, the fear of ceremony, of feeling intimidated or even rejected.

An invitation to join a new story: that of jewellery in its own right, one that gives women the possibility of feeling beautiful and valued, of giving — and giving themselves — an exceptional object.

OUR COMMITMENTS

From the very beginning, Douze Paris has chosen to sell only products that meet ethical standards, whether in the origin of materials and stones, or in the way they are made and consumed. Crafted in 18-carat recycled gold, we source exclusively from foundries and workshops certified RJC (Responsible Jewellery Council)-CoC (the RJC Chain of Custody standard) (more information here) to ensure full traceability of our metals. Douze Paris jewellery is made by French and international workshops that also work for major maisons. We favour short supply chains and strive to minimise the carbon footprint that long-distance transport would entail. However, due to the specific nature of certain products or the expertise required to make them, a few of our creations are produced abroad (in Thailand and India, specifically). These workshops also hold RJC certification, guaranteeing responsible practices and working conditions. Each creation concerned carries a note on its product page. Bespoke and transformation pieces are made entirely by hand in Paris, by our partner artisans. Our diamonds come exclusively from countries that are members of the international certification scheme known as the Kimberley Process*. The aim of this agreement is to end the trade in "conflict diamonds" and ensure that the diamond trade does not finance the activities of violent rebel movements.*www.kimberleyprocess.com

Finally, we have chosen to produce the vast majority of our creations to order. This helps us avoid overstock and, we hope, restore a slower, more mindful way of consuming. Buying to last and marvelling forever has become our mission.
